A computer deployment can appear complete and still fail at handoff if the employee’s cloud account has never been tested. First sign-in depends on more than knowing the username.
Verify before deployment
- Confirm the username and password at the Microsoft 365 sign-in page.
- Complete MFA registration and confirm the employee controls the approved authentication method.
- Check account status, required licenses, and any temporary password or forced password change.
- Confirm the computer has working internet access and correct date and time.
Why first sign-in fails
- The password may be expired, temporary, mistyped, or changed elsewhere.
- MFA enrollment may be incomplete or tied to someone else’s phone.
- The account may be blocked, unlicensed, or created in the wrong tenant.
- The device may be registered but not joined, or joined to a different organization.
A repeatable handoff
- Test the account before the employee arrives.
- Keep a separate local recovery path for troubleshooting.
- Document the final username and tenant without recording the employee’s password.

Practical note: Technology, licensing, vendor capabilities, and regulatory obligations vary. Confirm the clinic’s current configuration before making changes.
Why browser verification comes first
A successful browser sign-in confirms the username, password, tenant, MFA method, and basic account state before the workstation depends on them. It also reveals expired temporary passwords, blocked accounts, missing licenses, or incomplete security registration.
Predeployment test
Use a private browser session, sign in to the clinic portal, complete MFA, verify the correct organization name, and open the required service. Then sign out. Do not save the password on a technician's personal browser.
First Windows sign-in
Connect the computer to reliable internet, confirm date and time are correct, and allow extra time for profile creation. After sign-in, test email, applications, shared files, printers, scanners, and recovery access.
